Terms & Conditions
Southgate Badminton Club is a non-profit recreational badminton club started in 1966 and we celebrated our Golden
Jubilee on 2016. We are now accepting registration for new membership (Sep 2024- Aug 2025)
To register as a member we recommend you to drop-in on any of our scheduled play date and try us out first.
Please do not remit your membership fee until you receive an invitation from us, since we cannot offer fee refund.
A player must have purchased a membership or paid the drop-in fee and received acceptance email confirming your
registration before entering the court. Your membership entitles you with only one vote during meeting and limited access
of designated gym to play badminton on a scheduled date and time subject to the terms and conditions set out below.
You are required to bring your own racquet, indoor badminton shoes and safety goggles (optional).
Indoor shoes should be worn only from inside the gym.
Maintain an inclusive environment by speaking the language that everyone in the gym can understand.
Help with either setting up or taking down the nets before and after the games. Don't just show up late and leave early or pretend to be warming up or cooling down. Everyone can see through that, it is out of respect you haven't been called out yet don't push your luck.
Arrive early and remember to do dynamic warm ups on the sideline. On court warm up time is restricted to <2 minutes and allowed only during beginning of the schedule start time or when 2 or more players needs warm up.
If there are lots of players waiting, regroup at your skill level or mix it up with 1 Adv x 1 Int player on both teams to make the team strength equal. Stay back or let someone to go ahead in the line up so everyone enjoys a challenging game.
We request advance players to play at least 1 mixed level game to motivate the intermediate players.
We encourage players to rotate their partners and opposing team at least after 3 games whenever there is an opportunity.
Every player needs to have their own birdie ( fairly good ) before entering the court.
Generally and by default, players on a court can play a match consisting of 2 games of 21 points (rally system). If there are many players waiting for the use of the courts, a match consists of only one game to 21 points. Once the match is completed, the court must be relinquished to the next 4 players in line waiting.
The executive in attendance decides whether matches consist of 1 or 2 games and can make this decision at any time in the session as waiting conditions change.
Winning team gets the first pick to decide whether to mix up, join or to let the losing team to join the next in line waiting for partners.
Doubles matches have priority over singles matches. If there are players waiting for a court, the singles match must give way to the doubles match.
Stop the game before 5 mins of the scheduled end time, Players must vacate the facility immediately at the end of scheduled booking time.
The team closest to shuttle where it landed will make the call. Be a good sportsman and accept the calls but also be honest to yourself when you have to call it. If the shuttle comes in contact with basketball hoop then it is a "let".
Leave the gym cleaner than you found it. Pick up the left over birdies or damaged racket and dispose them properly.
Kindly email us if you are not able to attend for an extended period of time.
Your membership is only conditional, subject to fairly regular attendance, regular participation in the survey and email questionnaire within 10 days of receipt, at least 1 attendance in 3 consecutive annual AGM after subscribing to membership or with satisfactory explanation in writing. Membership fee paid is not refundable nor non-transferable.
Remember that the Students have the first priority to the school gym. There may be cases when a school game is running late, or we may not have been notified of a preemption due to a school activity. Be patient and gracious when this happens and DO NOT rush or engage in an argument with anyone.
If any player's conduct either inside the Club or elsewhere is, detrimental to the character or interest of the Club, damaging school or others property, abusing the privilege, failing to promote true sportsmanship or found violating the above terms and conditions will be disallowed from playing further and their membership revoked with no refund.
